Get a battery charger or booster battery and keep it handy, cost is $50.00 or so. On sell at $39.00. For winter starting.
Check engine oil level first, then add oil if needed, read the owner manual that comes with the car if you do not have it then go get it from the dealer or ask for exact link, dealer should know.
One of the writer is correct about the light, low pressure is indicated if the light comes on when you are driving, and it comes on inter mittently, then you can get by, by adding oil, if stays on then change oil first, if the problem is solved, fine if still does the same thing then it may be the pump, must not drive the car with this light on you can damage the engine cost can be few thousand dollars.
You may need a new battery, get the biggest battery that fits this car do not buy cheap one, one tow trip will pay for it and you will not need towing ever if you keep the car in good shape, regular maintenance.
For winter starting a good battery is a must. Car is 7 years old and even if it is well maintained then most battery will last only 4 to 6 years so chances are it is battery but while at it check all fluid levels that you can check go slow read the instruction few times understand them and then do it, if you feel confident enough. If the car need jacking up to change the oil do not do it yourself, if you do not have the equipment. It can come down on you, and kill you.
If you know some one that knows about the car then, let them look at it. Do not add oil if you are not sure, there are different oils and they go in different places, wrong oil can be expensive but book shows where what is to be added, and how to check it.
You asked, " what can I say to not get ripped off"?
Just tell them it will not start and what you have written here take it to a dealer. Pay more but do not get ripped off, if they are reputable ones.

I'm not a great mechanic, but if your oil pressure is low you may need check the oil level and top up the oil. If you have done that already, you may have an oil leak which would need professional help.
If your battery is discharged, you may need to charge it up, either by putting it on charge overnight, (a small local garage would do that for you quite cheaply, or you could buy a battery charger) or by getting a 'jump start' from somebody else's battery, and then taking a longish journey to charge it up. If the battery is not holding its charge, you may need to get a new battery.
Hope this helps.

I find self diagnosis to be better anyway, your doing the right thing, ask questions, then take it to a more experienced person. The low oil pressure light is on because the engine is not running at the current time. and the battery discharge light is on because more than likely the battery is dead. go to walmart, buy a battery, and if both your lights go out, the problem is solved, if not, return the battery and take the car into a shop.

All points to your battery being too low to start the car. The most likely problem is that the battery has died. If you haven't changed it since new then this is the time to do that. If the battery is newer then charge it up and see if it holds a charge. The other thing that could be wrong is the alternator, but you'd have noticed a warning light over the last few days.

Yeah, you're not going to have any oil pressure until the engine is running. If you're not getting anything at all when you turn the key, it's most likely the battery needs to be replaced. Especially if it's the original battery in the car. If that's the case then be thankful you got seven years out of it...and then replace it. You can change the battery yourself, there's no need to hire a professional.

All the lights should come on when you turn the key to ON and before you actually start the car so as to allow you to check that all the warning bulbs work so that's probably why the Oil and Charging system light came on.
Get a new battery and see what happens, you might also want to check the oil level before you actually try to start it (good idea anyway) just in case.
