My daughter is 5 and she wants a doll that looks like her. I'm not sure if she is old enough to take care of the American Girl doll, especially with a little sister around to play with it as well. Does anyone know of any dolls similar looking to these but less expensive? Thanks!

Target has a line of dolls called "Our Generation Girls" that are very, very close to an AG doll, but for $25-$30 dollars. Their hair will not stay as nice as a real AG doll but it's a great "starter" doll to see how well your daughter will care for her. Plus the clothes for the OGG doll will fit the AG dolls. And they've got nice accessories like beds, bathrubs, etc that are far less expensive than the AG line.

There are many choices on the market for look alike dolls, from dolls under $40 which use a scanned photo on fabric, to middle-of-the-line vinyl dolls for over $100, to very, very expensive artist made dolls. You can even get a paper doll that looks like your child! http://mypaperdoll.com/

Your best bet for a cheaper doll might be to keep looking on eBay for an AG or MyTwinn that looks like your daughter.

Also, she might like a rag doll with an outfit to match. You could do this yourself if you sew and even make a doll & matching outfit for the little sister as well! If not, look on eBay for House of Hatten dolls. They sometimes come with matching outfits for little girls.

Take a look at "Baby So Beautiful" dolls on eBay. Many of the dolls offered there are in mint condition and you can get one for a reasonable price if you are willing to bid. I used to own one (but sold it on eBay) and the doll was very well made and quite pretty. I think they were originally sold in the late 80s.
