Unfortunately there is no cure for Ankolysing Spondalitis. It is not a wear and tear type of arthritis, it is a genetic disorder of the joints. She needs careful medication and supervised exercise.

She can ask her doctor to refer her to an arthritis exercise class or to a physiotherapist. See below for more detail.

Spondylitis is a type of wear and tear arthritis, usually in the vertabrae. They are not always painful, and the pain more often comes from the tissue between them. Pain pills are only a temporary cure, and long term anti-inflammatory use can cause bone density loss and organ damage (if overdone).
She needs to try other methods that are less harmful - chiropractic, massage, stretching/strengthening exercises, acupuncture and maybe supplements such as fish oil, chondroitin and glucosamine. Good luck.
PS: Spondolytis is one thing, Ankylosing Spondylitis is another. The answer is the same for both, as AS is also not curable with drugs.
