For determining gender? Pretty accurate though not a perfect science. Depends on what week they do a scan (before 19 weeks is not as accurate) and what position your baby is in.

Most gender predictions based on a scan are accurate, although I do know a few women who were told the wrong sex.

As far as other results, ultrasound can be useful for diagnostic purposes if a problem is suspected, and also to take measurements and determine if your baby's growth and development are on schedule.

In terms of? If you are trying to find out the accuracy in terms giving you the baby's size, well it's not that accurate. They can be off my 2 lbs either way. They measure the head circumference, the bone lenth on the leg and arm and then based on that they come up with an estimate of the baby's size.

During the last few weeks of pregnancy, if the amount of amniotic fluid is high, they say the accuracy is better. IF the amniotic fluid is low, it is not very accurate. I happen to fall into the "a lot of amniotic fluid" with my first and when I was told that my baby was measuring 8 1/2 lbs already at 38 weeks, we all got a little shocked. Sure enough, he was 9 lbs 14 ounces when he was born.

With my twins, I got a measurement of 5 1/2 lbs and 4 1/2 lbs for my girls at about 28 weeks , but when I gave birth at 33 1/2 weeks, that's what they weighed! Obviously, they couldn't have stayed the same weight for 5 weeks or so.

It depends on what results are involved. The estimated due date can be quite accurate.
During one of my many ultrasounds done (I had many due to complicated pregnancies), we found out, at 19 weeks, that our daughter has a cleft lip/palate. They weren't 100% sure, so I had a 3-D ultrasound done which confirmed the cleft lip/palate.
Sometimes a follow up ultrasound must be done in order to confirm something.

Due to what the results are...if they are early in pregnancy for dating they are usually accurate. The further along you are its harder. Babies grow at different rates and can measure a week later or earlier. For the sex of the baby it is hard to say. Either the baby gives them a shot or they dont. I had 2 of them to confirm it is a girl. Congrats
