Yes, there are many songs that are better. Expand your horizons my friend. I would certainly consider listening to some newer stuff.
Actually, older stuff too -- lots of song from the 1960's (Vietnam era).
Since you seem to like the 80's though how about stepping back a bit further to "Safety Dance" (Men without Hats) or something by Psychedelic Furs or Depeche Mode or The Cure? If you are going to listen to 80's music (which I have no problem with) then really listen to it. REM is good but not the best.

Well it's all down to personal taste isn't it?
I personally think there are many songs that are better than that song. R.E.M themselves have much better songs.
My favourite song by them has always been Nightswimming.

It is a very good song, and I love it very much. However, I can't just say that one song is best out of any song I listen to because they're all so different. But this is one of the better ones. :)
