It depends on where you live and if they have need for your type. It's not hard work to get by any means. Anyone can do it. Yes you can sign up with Central Casting, if you live in LA or NY. If not you'll have to check with more local companies. Do a web search for your state name and the word film. Check out the sites that come up. They should be your state's film alliances, associations, etc. They often have info on projects filming locally and how you can be a part of them. Some gigs pay, some don't.

If you're in LA there are other companies that cast extras. All of them charge a fee to register with them and that's normal for the industry. These companies are not agents. They're companies that provide a service. Check out Cenex and Bill Dance, Sandi Alessi I think is another one. If you're under 18, there's Kids Background Talent.

good luck,
Marianne

Actually your chances are pretty good considering that most acting work in general consists of background/extra work and smaller roles.

Have a look at this page link: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/extra_casting.html

It is actually pretty good. You have to get in touch with the studios and be there when they need people and be available. Persistence is the word...
