how can people get caught shoplifting with cameras on them.... like at a gas station even... its not like theres people sitting in the backroom watching the monitors allll day.. most of them are just for show arnt they? to scare off the stealers.... if not.... how could they catch the shoplifters?

and unless the actual worker there spots u... thats wut the cameras are for right? theres not people watching them........

If there is a product that goes missing and they know roughly when, then the company can check the cameras in the area and time and possibly spot the thief. Also photos of well known thieves are put in a folder and kept so that shops can identify them and keep an eye out.

You're right though unless someone is watching them all day its hard to catch someone shoplifting and that chances are most of them get away with it but it still is a good deterrent.

Cameras, like cops, are reactive - not proactive. They are used after the fact to see who did what.

Most stores usually use more than just cams to track shoplifters.

you look like a shoplifter, the store I used to work at has LOTS of cameras and they all work and are on a DVR system. It records everything and stores it, when they need to prosecute.
