Western(allopathic) medicines are developed scientifically and approved after detailed trials. It's mandatory to disclose it's composition ,dosage and side effects if any.In case of any complications and clarifications,,the source can be held answerable.A legal frame work exists for the regulation of such medicines. In case of alternative medicines ,no such practices are followed and such medicines can prove to be harmful or even fatal, without anybody being answerable for the damages. Though not a complete answer to all health problems, western medicines are a safer bet than many alternative formulations available over the counter.

I prefer what works and for the most part that is western medicine with alternative medicine being essentially useless (the few cases in which it does work will end up becoming part of scientific medicine while the others will stay alternative (thus the idea that something old is better is actually completely backwards)).

Your question covers a very broad range of techniques. It's almost impossible to give a straight answer. Alternative medicine has some wonderful areas that are vital for health and happiness. (herbal for example), as also does the "Western." (emergency care, etc) However, you will find quackery in alternative medicine, you can't lump it all into one big happy family. As also, you can't trust all "Western" medicine, many traditional doctors absolutely don't have your best interest at heart, neither do the drug and medicine companies. SO, I think that it's a fine line between the two!

Personally, I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses, which is why I utilize both. I think the difference is the way illness is perceived in each, it's important to incorporate the whole person in the issue and alternative medicine does that better. In "western" medicine it's as though each illness has it's little piece and it's separate from what's going on with the person. Of course not every practitioner works that way... either way, no reason to discredit the one or the other, they both work, and they work better together!

I prefer prevention :) But if treatment is required. I do prefer alternative treatments. That being said, they need to high quality. I have been fortunate that I connected myself with an amazing line of alternative therapies that actually work :)
Many of the alternative therapies available are not effective at all, as although there is some research in this area, there not regulation on alternative therapies.

Alternative medicine will keep me from dieing (no matter what I have). Western medicine will flat out kill me. The Chinese have been curing cancer for years people, when will you all realize that?

Both have their uses-strengths and weaknesses. If I have have a cold I certainly don't go to the MD. Mostly my fault for letting my immune system get that weak. I take lots of Shaklee supplements and get over it in a day.
