No. Bonds has the record. Period. Selig and baseball in general have already passed on the PEDs issue. Bonds is up for lying now. It's like OJ and theft or Al Capone and income tax. They got by with the big one.
Besides, if Bonds' stuff were expunged, what about the pitchers who faced him? What would happen to their records? And the fielders and so forth and so on. No, the record stands.

i do no longer think of that Barry Bonds cares approximately what Mr. Selig does or thinks or says touching directly to the occupation homestead run checklist. in spite of the fact that I particularly have in no way met Barry or anybody who has, i won't have the capacity to help yet sense that Barry does not shelter the checklist or the sport of baseball different than the thank you to lift himself. If Bonds particularly cared approximately baseball or the followers he could desire to stop employing the "no you may actually tutor it so i could desire to be harmless" reasoning and merely provide us all a actual answer. If Bonds got here out and appeared right into a digital camera and defined precisely what he did or did no longer take and why i think of i ought to admire him plenty greater.

not until he is convicted?
The Chicago Black Sox were banned for life after they were all acquitted in a court of law. They thought they were free and clear, returning to their careers as major league baseball players when the commissioner of baseball lowered the boom.
I believe Kennisaw Mountain Landis even had in his speech, "Regardless of the verdicts of juries......."
Unless there is something in the union contract....etc. then perhaps the commissioner is still empowered to do just that. This is not just about taking away the record but about putting Barroid on the permanently ineligible list, same as the Chicago Black Sox and Pete Rose.

How can you strip someone of their statistics? The numbers are what they are. You can't just pretend he never played. Pete Rose is banned, yet he's still the record holder for most base hits.

I am sure Selig will wait for a conviction before any decision is made as what to do with Bonds.

He 100% absolutely should.
bostonsportsfan: No record is set in stone. Anyone with the power to do so can erase it (see Ben Johnson and other record holders who were caught using steroids).

Yes he can, he is the commissioner. Bartlett Giamatti banned Pete Rose from baseball before passing away, he was the commissioner. Kenesaw Mt. Landis banned Joe Jackson....
The commissioner has the power to do that, he answers to no one when it comes to things like that. If he has the balls, he will do it, if not, he is a weak, weak man.

No Bud can't do that.
The record is already set in stone.
Bonds will probably never play baseball again, in my opinion justice is served.
