Not sure what it might be in other areas of the country, but I know what it means to me.

A "Ridge Runner" lives in the back hills of the country where roads do NOT have side lines or divider lines down the middle of the road. The roads are narrow and in order for 2 trucks to drive on the same road (one going one way, the other going the other way), they have to hug the sides (ridges) and say a prayer. We usually do this about 80 mph! LOL

When I was a boy, they were called that in Kentucky and Tennessee when they drove the backroads as fast as they could to avoid the revenuers while they were delivering moonshine.
Ridgerunner, because of the dangerous hills, mountain roads and most country roads were rarely travelled because they were usually on the ridge, or top and edges of the bluffs.
