I recently purchased a 98 Toyota Avalon XLS. One minor issue with the car is that the gas release lever doesn't open the gas cap door without a little help. I have to lodge something in the gas cap door first to put outward pressure on it, then I engage the gas release lever to open it. Does anyone have any clever ideas for something to rig up to leave lodged in the gas cap door so I don't have to mess around with it every time I stop at the gas station?

ajmustee - Gorilla Glue??? No, I don't want to keep the gas cap door stuck permanently. When I stopped at the gas station, I had to lodge my key in the gas cap door and turn it sideways (like I was trying to pry it open), then I pulled on the gas release lever and the gas cap door popped open. I want to be able to use something besides my key.

Or maybe I'm not fully understanding what you're talking about...can you add some details to your answer?

There should be a small metal spring plate that puts pressure on the door at the hinge area or striker area..you may have to rebend this spring to put more force on the door. Or replace if it is missing/broken.

what's troubling you, is somewhat clip that is going on the gasoline lid door. the best component to do is have somebody pull the launch from the interior and gently pry on the door (it would open). as quickly as you do get it open, the clip will value you much less then $5 and it quite is elementary to placed on, any Toyota broking might have it

Gorilla glue an eraser or something. I think I know what you're talking about, and I bet that would work.
