I'm almost exactly where you are! I was 1cm and 60% effaced on Tuesday. I totally understand the pain. Yesterday I got a few BH contractions that brought tears to my eyes. The only thing that seemed to help was walking around and drinking lots of water. About the hospital issue, my childbirth teacher says that when you get to the point where you get very quiet and serious during contractions is probably the right time to go. If you go too soon you might not be dilated enough and they'll either send you home or hook you up to Pitocin(which will give you some pretty wicked contractions). Well, anyways, hope that helps! Good luck with your L & D.

This sounds like my last pregnancy so I know how you feel. Basically I was having regular painful contractions on and off for 2 days yet when I went in to be checked I was only 2 cm dilated and not in active labor.

I tried everything - walking and eating spicy foods and taking warm baths and no progress. So finally my midwife just told me GET SOME REST. She said obviously I was going to go into labor very soon and that would happen by itself so the best thing to do was rest.

She was right! That night I invited my family over to watch a movie with us. I relaxed on the couch, had some hot tea and went to bed early. Got a pretty good night's sleep and then next morning my water broke at 4 a.m.

So I guess my advice is, you are probably just a day or two away from labor so sleep and rest now if you can!

As for the pain, there's not much you can do because what you are experiencing is very early contractions. Besides massage, hot and cold pressure and a bath, there's not much more in the way of relief.

Well try sleeping in the bathtub it will relaxe your body and about going in ask your doctor because I went when my Contrastion were 5 mins a part. and I dialated to 2 cm and no effaced at all. (that I remeber)

I don't know if I would take a bath, that might move things along too fast. Call your dr and let them know, it sounds like you are ready to go. The day I gave birth to my son I was 2cm and 50% effaced. best wishes. :)
