I brought my daughter a laptop of ebay for christmas with 7 days return garuentee and i payed through paypal.so i got the laptop and it was excellent its a compaq evo n1020v with with windows xp profesional but after the 7 days it started to freeze randomly and even though the battery doesnt hold charge (which we knew about before we brought it anyway) when i unplug the mains it dont switch off so i have to hold the power button in to turn it off then sometimes when you restart it always turns on but sometimes the screens blank or sometimes it works for a bit then freeze's suddenly so i re-installed windows xp and still it freezes , i rang hp for support they are suggesting its either the HD THE MEMORY OR THE MOTHERBOARD how much do think this will cost? should i try get my money back from paypal? can i still after 7 days garentee get it back? or can i repair it myself ?

no i did re-install windows and its def not a program hanging because it happened again straight from re-installing

Here's why people should be wary of eBay. Sellers lie.

You are probably not going to get a refund. Laptops cost a fortune to repair and must be done by a laptop repair company, except for replacing RAM or the hard drive. The Source or Future Shop can do this for you for $200 - $ 400 and there's no guaranty that the motherboard ($500 - $900) isn't defective.

A NEW $600+ laptop may be your only option.

Could be just a program hanging up or something... its happened to me before anyhow. I would attempt to reinstall your op system first before I looked at the hardware...

its a RAM problem its been bashed around a bit it will cost you about £80.00 for a new RAM stick/s and try to get the same brand of RAM as last time.
