you have to understand the accounting process. go for tuition or ask your college/school teachers how to go about it. You cannot solve the problems without understanding the process..

You hit the same wall I did, when I, first, went freelance.

I finally solved the problem by hiring an accountant, specializing in working with creative people, like artists and musicians.

From him, after awhile, I learned about what types of records I needed to keep, and what tax form were required for my state. I, then, started to keep records on Quicken, and then, later, on QuickBooks. Things have gone much more smoothly, inlcuding keeping track of accounts receivables (pretty important, if I expect to eat!)

Still, a BIG part of my day is spent on things that have nothing to do with creating art, but a LOT to do with getting paid for it.
