How would you know
What things,
Between you and your heart,
You have forgotten now?
The distant dreams
The magic charms
Fantasies, and dreadful harms
The innocent little mind of yours
The Parental care, and the garden
With it flowers and butterflies
The summer breeze
And the winter snow
The season that passed in haste
Has that all gone to waste?
Never to be ever again
Never to be ever again
The friendly faces
The first time when your heart ached
The first glow and the blush
The first time ever when you said,
‘Goodbye’
Was it far too soon
How would you know then
What were the things
Between you and your heart
That you have forgotten now?
The dear things of a dear heart?

From your beautiful & poignant prose, it's difficult to imagine that you have forgotten anything!
Truth be told, nothing IS forgotten. People have an incredible ability (intentional or not) to block certain memories from their consciousess; often this is for the best if the memory can never be resolved & reliving it would only cause distress.
Remembering is selective in many ways. Memories can be put on the shelf for years, & then without any obvious reason, like dusty books, fall off the shelf precisely when we need them for insight.
We have infinite storage for memories, & nothing is truly forgotten, even if one has amnesia.
We "know" when we care, or need to remember.

There will come to a point that indeed our memory is short. Some would call it as lapse in judgment. Being forgetful often times are attributed on things we are preoccupied with our minds. The heart has no reason to mean it but it is the head that should be given the blame. The heart will dearly be considerate as we grow. I think it this is just normal on the life process. It is human nature.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

Because sometimes absence is conspicuous.

You might find a wall with a big hole in it, and you know that the wall wasn't just built that way; you know someone broke a hole in that wall. It doesn't mean that you know what was on that middle wall-section... but you know that something WAS there because the surroundings are discontinuous where continuity would be expected.

I know there are a great many things I have forgotten this way.... and I know I have forgotten them.
Likewise though, there are situations I have completely and utterly forgotten both in form and essence.... where the entire wall has been removed and cleared away as though nothing were ever there.

I know because I can't remember something but usually
I will remember later.
However, if I appear to have forgotten my manners
then I'm afraid I never had any to lose.

You won't know until you remember... its like asking how do you know what you don't know? Its only when you know it, that you can realise you didn't know it before. You can't remember what you have forgotten, IF you remember it, then its no longer forgotten is it.
