It's not illegal, but it's not ethical. Are you sure she's not just saying that to make you WANT to prove her wrong so you actually WILL succeed??

I shouldn't think it's illegal but she doesn't sound like a very sensitive soul does she. She may be trying to put you off attempting something that is way out of your reach and feels she's doing you a favour by putting you off. This may be true and perhaps your dream IS unattainable - but there are nicer ways of letting you down than telling you baldly that you're useless. She should be more gentle with you........On the other hand, you could say to yourself 'Sod her, I'll do what I want' and maybe her behaviour will MAKE you attain your dream and you'll end up thanking her. Whatever happens, Good luck to you.

Do you even know how the legal system works? How exactly are they going to make a law that says you have to support any idea no matter how hair-brained? because I'll tell you I want to be the richest guy on the planet. or an astronaut. the richest astronaut in the world.

You need to care less about what some negative teacher says and DO what it takes to fulfill your own dreams. learn a lesson in this - YOU are the only one who can succeed in a goal. no one is going to give it to you.

hard work, and less blaming is needed to succeed.

you cant just type that answer and expect people to go yes its illegal how dare she!!!
How do you act in school??? are you naughty??? do you work to the best of your ability??? i dont think so or she wouldnt be saying you cannot get your dream! what is your dream, to be a proffesional footballer, a singer, a model?? maybe she is saying this because she knows how tough it is to get into the business. Give her a break, when i tell people they wont be able to do it, its because i want to push them to BE THE BEST they can be, not because i want to hurt them, and im sure your teacher is the same.

She's probably pissed she makes a crappy wage.
You could either let it get you down and prove her right or you can prove her wrong and use her retardedness as motivation.
If you can get it taperecorded, I would say you might have something there. And when you do have it on tape, take it to the news stations, get some publicity out of it. She'll be sure to be fired.

She probably sees that you can be a lot more if you try. I heard the same thing and my teacher was trying to tell me that if I didn't crack down and get my school work done that I would never amount to anything. She was trying to get me to become more invested in my education.

You can't listen to that. You have to ignore her. Talk to someone about the situation. If she persists then tell her how she is making you feel in front of a counselor.

She might just be bitter that she didn't follow her dreams.

Its certainly not illegal - what is your dream that the teacher is trying to squash? If we knew what your dream was we could tell you if what your teacher is doing is unethical.

Good Luck!!!

uhh..i don't think it's illegal..i mean you can't sue people just because they said something nasty. but that's one hell of a horrible teacher. I'd seriously would consider talking to headmaster or somebody who has more authorities than she/he does. your teacher has no right to tell you such things. I'd talk to the teacher too and tell him/her that if they kept up with this kind of attitude, that i'd report him. go strong otherwise they'll just look down on you/.
