It would reduce my meat diet to fish only.

No, I wouldn't be able to kill anything. I even feel sorry for fish that people catch.

Yes - on the farm we would eat an entire sheep every four days, which meant my brothers and I had to kill 3 sheep every fortnight (occasionally we ate pork or steak, so that is about right), and we got pretty good at it. I kept my knife sharp so killing was easy and humane - the sheep was dead before it knew what was happening.
We would kill, gut and skin three sheep (2 year-old dry ewes were the best eating), hang them for a day in the fly-proof killing shed, then move them into the walk-in freezer at night. The next day we would slice them up using a band-saw we built for the job out of an old kitchen table, two bicycle wheels and a washing machine motor. Frozen sheep saw up just like timber - no mess, very quick and the chops are all free-flow frozen. We used to cut the bony bits off the mutton chops, leaving a butterfly steak of the two mutton chops - very good on the barbie!
We fed those bones and the mutton flaps to our sheepdogs, which meant they all looked forward to sheep killing day too.

I was once asked while eating Tandoori mixed grill at an indian restaurant "How can you eat so much meat? Have you ever tried vegetarian?" to which I replied "It takes a lot of antelopes to keep a lion going! And what do you mean? These are ALL vegetarians - I don't eat anything else!"

Herbivores exist on this Earth for the sole reason of saving us top predators from having to graze plant matter all day long. That gives us time to think and to do more important stuff. If we didn't eat sheep, pigs and cattle, they would soon be rendered extinct as we would have to move their grazing lands into more intensive grain, nut and vegetable production.

The only reason I don't still kill my own meat is that it's more efficient for me to work on my computer all day while someone else does the meat preparation - specialisation is what allows our civilisation to be so well fed and comfortable - it's too much hard yacker doing everything yourself.

People used to when they had no other choice and people still do.

I think I'm practical enough that if I HAD to then I would, but I'll always prefer the plastic wrapped red food in the cold section.

(Just as a side note; even though you don't see as much blood or hear the fish bleeting I find killing fish to be just as bad to watch. Gaping for breath... all I can think of is that it's suffocating and what that'd feel for your last moments)

of course. especially if it's a survival for the fittest. and fish have meat too or how do you call it if it's not a meat? a fillet? lol! fish are animals too, with meat, so when you go fishing and kill the fish, you still have to eat the fish.... such redundancy here! maybe you should try being a vegetarian, at least do don't 'KILL' the vegetables. lol

I think its less barbaric if you kill the animal yourself. At least then they have a fighting chance. Pigs and cows slaughtered are doomed! Let's even the playing field.

Plus, people wouldn't be over weight if they had to go out and hunt every time they were hungry. Free the farms. Animals should run through the city and everyone should be given bows and arrows.

lunch hours might need to be extended.

No, I have a hard time picking raw meat up at the grocery store, already prepared. I would not be able to kill and animal to eat it. However, if I (or my family) was starving I would do what I had to do to stay alive.

Shooting, gutting and cleaning an animal is hard work but not impossible. Believe me if it meant putting dinner on the table versus starving, there would be meat every night. I have hunted before and I would have NO problem. Might have to start with ducks and rabbits at first untill I get my 5pt buck then the year should be covered. Your welcome to come for dinner any time.-Rachel.

I don't eat meat anyway. And excuse me, why is it OK to kill a fish in that case? I get so pissed off with people who say they are "vegetarian - but I eat fish". D*ckheads! Fish IS meat.

yes, my grandpa and my father butchered meat and my husband does also. when you grow up seeing that it doesn't bother you. Actually fresh meat tastes a lot better that what you get from the store and fresh off the farm and not grown in these places that raise a lot meat just to be butchered is healthier

I could never kill something that made noise when I killed it, especially knowing that I could just go fishing where it won't scream the crap out of you....so yea, i'd do the fish thing too. =D
