The difficulty with bridging the gap is young people think they already know everything and seniors know there is always more to learn. Sometimes the young people have to learn things the hard way. It is a rite of passage. We have already been there. They best way to get along is to suggest or invite them to consulte you for advice if needed. They hate being told what to do, it just creates hostility.

Alot of the younger generations could learn about history and life by talking to a senior citizen. My father was in World War ll when the atom bomb was dropped. The stories he had to tell were like none in any history book.Plus, just listening to his life was a blast from the past since he grew up in the great Depression. Maybe with all the computer knowledge and expertise that young people possess, they could record the seniors stories and make a dvd with photos of their past.It would result in something they both enjoyed.

Traditionally youth distance themselves from older people they don't know.
But this barrier comes down over common concerns.
One such example was over the use of nuclear warfare through the 1950's.
This ignited passions within both young and old alike.
Thus united, they marched together from Aldermaston to London year after year.
Find a cause for which both groups share a passion and they will unite.

There are various groups I participate in which include younger and older people. For me, they are mostly activist groups pushing for certain political issues. Though, they also include many events that are purely social.

I think it is good to find something that interests you and pursue it. Younger people are motivated to shape the world in which they will live, and older people wish to leave the world a better place. Therefore, this is an area where they can meet towards a common goal.

One group I happen to associate with is the Beltway Atheists. We get together, politically, to promote separation of church and state, and there are events we hold to pass out literature. A more important part of our group, though, are the happy hours, where we get together to socialize. Here, the goal is mostly to meet other people of a like mind for good conversation. Our membership ages range from the early twenties to the eighties.
