NEW YORK - A jeweler was convicted Thursday of falsely reporting that five Arab men were plotting to bomb New York subways on July 4, 2006, a hoax ....

The jury in Manhattan's state Supreme Court deliberated four days before convicting Rimon Alkatri, 35, of falsely reporting an incident in the first degree. He faces up to seven years in prison (ONLY 7 YEARS INSTEAD OF GUITMO!!!!)

Alkatri was allowed to remain free pending sentencing. A native of Syria, he also faces deportation as a convicted felon. His lawyer, Michael L. Soshnick, argued that a return home could be fatal because he is Jewish...."

The attack was well-thought out and involved a lot of planning, except that it was all low-tech. The hijackers came to the USA years before the attack and took flying lessons. They also trained physically so they would be able to overpower the crew. They also coordinated their attacks so they occured at the same time. That took some studying of the schedules. They also figured out how to de-activate the transponders on the planes so it would be hard to track the planes & shoot them down. Whether you consider all this "a lot" of planning is a matter of opinion. Most people have said the attacks were well-planned, funded, & coordinated. Given how successful they were, I would agree with them. May this horrible day never happen again. .

I don't think it was just anger but rage born out of humiliation and helplessness to effect the world. Osama is a fanatic who fancies himself the savior of Moslems from the evils of the west. At least one of the people behind it had been tortured by the Egyptian police. I think their real motivation was not that different than Timothy McVeigh's, even though their announced objectives were not the same. The difference is that the masterminds were able to recruit helpers because of the political repression in Arab countries where as McVeigh could not because he lived in the US.

Iv'e said it before. The people who allegedly commited the act had no other way of striking back at a nation that caused them so much heart break ( thats the USA ). They don't have armies or navies and such. Only ingenuity. These people have a very, very good reason to hate the west.

Yes, they did it because they hate non-Muslims. It has nothing to do with a love of God because it is not a loving thing to do. They were inspired by hatred and greed. Some were actually stupid enough to believe they would go to heaven and get 72 virgins.
