First I look for a candidate that has the same values as I do, then I look at his past to see how honest he was. If he did the things he said he would do and lived up to his past promises then I would vote for him. Basically I don't really listen much to what they're saying but instead I look more as to what they did or didn't do in the past.
(most politicians will say anything to get elected or say what they think you want to hear. So just relying on what they are saying for the most part is a waste of time. You need to look at there past.) But if they're a new candidate with no real background then you should look more into the people that are supporting them and contributing to there campaigns, check out there histories.

Qualifications. Unfortunately, most people do not vote based on this. They vote for the candidate who is the smoothest talker, or the most personable, or who the corporate media tells them to vote for.
