No, they're scary

The ones who answered that motorcycles are dangerous should stay in the Politics>Paranoia section, because it's obvious they don't ride themselves. Motorcycles aren't scary nor are they dangerous; they do exactly what the rider tells them to do, and if that rider is in way over their head then bad things can happen. No one can simply get on a motorcycle and be good in a week or two- it takes years.

For the rest of us, of course we like to ride! A wonder of mechanical genius and physics that can smoke a Porsche while getting hybrid gas mileage for under $10,000? Sign me up!

I'm with Andy C on this one. 2007 V-Strom 650ABS here. Although I ride 100+ miles a day commuting and am a very big proponent of riding I have to say that it's not for everyone. It's great out in the fresh air, etc, etc, etc, but you need to be pretty vigilant about defensive driving at all times. You can't have your head in the clouds or you'll end up in them, with a harp :)

I ride it for my own enjoyment
I don't ride a bike to be seen and show off
I love the open air in my face, I love to be in control or the bike, to know my skills keep the bike in control, I love to look down at the road and see it fly by only inches from my feet, I love the quick acceleration and power.

Didn't like it this morning! I got a rear flat tire today. Oh man, that was not good.

Any other day, I like it just fine.

Edit:
Hey, I want a 2007 V-Strom 650! I don't need the ABS (California -- I don't do a lot of skidding).

Motor bikes are very fast and very loud.

They have good miles per gallon.

They are the modern day equivalent of a horse (which eats petrol instead of grass).

I like to ride a motor cycle but they are more dangerous than cars, so I tend to drive a car instead.

Also in a car you don't get wet if it rains and you can have creature comforts like a roof, air-con, stereo, dvd player, xbox, fridge etc.
