Hip-Hop is the culture as a whole...music, artwork, dance, clothing, etc.

Rap is Rhythm And Poetry, the actual delivery of the lyrics in a song

The term rap music is sometimes used interchangeably with hip hop music, though rapping actually refers specifically to the practice of speaking poetically over rhythms and/or melodies.

The term Hip hop encompasses the whole street lifestyle (graffitti, breakdancing etc). While 'Rap' just represents lyrics that are spat over a beat.

Hip-Hop is the kind of music that any people could listen to, there are dirty versions with bad words but aren't as violent. ex. Eazy-Er Said Than Dunn by Eazy-E. Sevy Thought I was born in 73, Now everybody wanna know the A-G-E, I had everyone thinkin' I was only fifteen. This song is a unique one that anyone could listen to and enjoy. Rap pretty much discusses lots of things that are not meant for most people such as violence, prostition, gang life. Most contain lots of profanity. Ex. One Blood by The Gang - I ain't got beef with 50, No Beef with Jay. What is Beef when Ya gettin head in the 6 trey. This song is the kind of song that could shock people's ears discussing guns & violence.
