Yeah, well whist USA was putting up GPS for military use, the EU started talking about civilian one ..

Needless to say, by the time they got around to doing something, the question became irrelevant ..
.. on the other hand, because so many snouts are already hoovering up the mountains public Tax money being squandered on this white elephant, I can't see it ever being stopped ..

Continuing with an 'EU' GPS makes about as much sense as the Tax on Japanese 'dot matrix' printers (designed to 'protect' the EU typewriter industry .... )

The GPS system for the EU is known as the Galileo project. It is currently somewhat stalled having only launched one of its 30 satellites. Don't hold your breath.

System called Galileo, consisting of 30 'GIOVE' satellites, the first of which is up now. Scheduled for operation 2010. Accuracy should be within 1 metre. Civilian enterprise, not military.
