I left my nuvaring in for an extra week for my vacation. Will this mess up the way I ovulate for the following month? I can't find any info about it through the web searches I've done.

Ok now I'm a little confused. If it prevents you from ovulating, then how can a woman get pregnant by missing one pill? Or the other women who get pregnant while on birth control. Does it just prevent ovulation some of the time then? It can't possibly work the sme for every woman. can it?

Nuvaring is hormonal birth control. You should not be ovulating while using it. All you have done is change when you will be getting your withdrawl bleeding. Chances are it will be heavier and longer the next time. I skipped a period with the pill, and the next one was much heavier and twice as long.

The reason some women get pregnant by missing pills is that her body started ovulating during that time. When the hormone levels are inconsistent, it makes it harder for your body to know what to do. The hormone involved is called progesterone. It is normally produced in larger quantities in pregnant women. It causes ovulation to stop and the uterine lining to build up. Hormonal birth control works by making your body think it is pregnant. But if the hormones are not introduced at a consistent rate, like having the ring in or taking the pill at the same time every day, your body will react as best it can to the fluctuating hormone levels.

You don't ovulate when you use hormonal birth control, that's the way it prevents you getting pregnant. What you get when you remove the ring each month is a withdrawl bleed. It will not mess anything up necessarily, but you will probably notice the next period is slightly heavier and may be clotty. You might also have some light cramping.

It could but I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
