Either way, you can gain acceptance to a local community college. This will be the best way to earn a nursing degree, and probably lowest cost.
If you want to start college quickly, get your GED. You may have to take some "refresher" courses once you do, but it gets you moving in the right direction.
If you want the social interaction, then you would want to go back. There are also college scholarships available to High School graduates that are not available for GED students.
You need to weigh what is most important to you.

Go back to school where you have the assistance of teachers and ask for their help when you need it. You will get a much better education than you will to pass a GED. I think a diploma will say more to an admissions office than a GED.

You should go back to school ASAP. At the very least, get your high school diploma. Life is a lot easier with an education than without one, and now is the best time for you to go to school because you have the time to do so.
Personally, I have only heard people regret not finishing high school or college; I have yet to hear someone complain about not dropping out.

Take it from someone that has been there. Go back and get your diploma. I was kicked out of high school due to some stupid circimstances and could have went back but I had to much pride and wouldnt go back. The principal treated me with no respect, like I was lower than dirt. And I refused to "bow down to the man.' It was dumb on my part, I shoul have sucked it up and went back. I do have my GED, I got it within a month of getting kicked out but it does not say as much as a diploma. It isnt suppose to matter legally if you have your diploma or your GED, but it does. And anyone you try to apply with will look at your GED and think to themselves, " I wonder why they didnt finish school, do I wan tsomeone who cant finish this to be in my company?" and their answer will probably be "no." Please just go back.

I dropped out in llth grade also, but I went back to home study and I got my high school diploma, You will need that to get into any nursing programs, and it will look better on you if you get a high school diploma rather then just a GED. Its worth going back for. Just do it.

Uhm... I seriously think you should go back to school and finish your diploma. It's not bad to drop out of school but what important is you realise school is useful for your future and come back to it. I know many teenagers want to leave school and work for the sake of earning money and some of them even give excuse that "Bill Gate didn't even finish university but he's still rich". Obviously, no proof has been given that qualified people are richer than others, however, finishing high school gives you more knowledge and some experience which you may be able to applied in your career. Who knows?
Anyway, good luck with everything.

Go to a charter school, it is just like a public school so you don't have to pay and it is allot more faster, they go by 3 semesters instead of two and you only take the classes you need and you get to choose if you want to go afternoons or morning (get out at 12 pm) so you can keep working. Since you are only 17 you still can go to one. You get a high school diploma not a GED which is worth more (in universities eyes). Look in your phone book and find your local charter schools. oh and by the way you have counselors too and usually smaller class sizes and they help you with all your applications to colleges and everything from tests to Saturday school just for tutoring so you can ace your Sat's and when you graduate they usually give you $2,000 for college because they are government owned and funded. So the $2,000 is like a grant or something you don't have to pay it back it's yours for school/ or keep. usually the students that go to charter schools are kids who either got pregnant or just really wanted to graduate as soon as they could, and people who have to work part time to support themselves or a family, but you will see they are mostly very mature for their age because of how they have to work and go to school at the same time. But hey I have admiration for those who don't give up and rather finish high school than quit or just go for GED.

Talk to a college counselor to go over your transcripts & education plan to see what makes the most sense for you.. I couldn't get my GED because of some credit issue.. but I got my diploma pretty easily when I went back.. Sounds like you already have a plan, good luck!

Sweetie, you really need to go back to school and get the diploma. Getting the "real thing" is important to yourself (self image), your parents (pride), and future employers (perseverance). Don't get me wrong, the GED is good too. It just doesn't mean quite the same thing as the actual diploma. Besides, the GED testing is more difficult than earning your diploma. About 70% of high school graduates cannot pass the GED test. Please, return to school.

Wow, speaking from experience I would go back to school if you can. A high school diploma with a decent GPA will get you into college. A stigma comes with a high school drop out as well as a GED earner as opposed to a traditional high school diploma earner. I recommend you make all efforts towards rectifying your educational blunders and ensure yourself with a great life ahead of you.
How well you do in high school dictates how the rest of your life will pan out.
It's funny you decided to go the nursing route. Nurses have their GED and so do some Doctors I know;)
Good luck and I truly wish you the best.
