LAKEPORT, Calif. - Three young black men break into a white man's home in rural Northern California. The homeowner shoots two of them to death — but it's the surviving black man who is charged with murder.
Prosecutors said homeowner Shannon Edmonds opened fire Dec. 7 after three young men rampaged through the Clearlake house demanding marijuana and brutally beat his stepson. Rashad Williams, 21, and Christian Foster, 22, were shot in the back. Hughes fled.
The Rev. Amos Brown, head of the San Francisco chapter of the NAACPand other NAACP officials are asking why the homeowner is walking free.
"This man had no business killing these boys," Brown said. "They were shot in the back. They had fled."
Edmonds' stepson, Dale Lafferty, suffered brain damage from the baseball bat beating he took during the melee. The 19-year-old lives in a rehabilitation center and can no longer feed himself

As for the homeowner - If they were still in the house, he had the right. Most states have the provision that you may use deadly force to defend your life or the life of another. If they were outside the house, he should be charged, but it would be difficult to get a conviction and could be plead down to assault.

As for the robber - I understand the logic of charging him with murder. Essentially, two people died as a direct result of him being involved in a felony. Realistically, this is a case of stacking charges so that when the case is plead down he will still being doing substantial time.

Sorry about their luck. If they wouldn't have broke into his house they would still be alive. it's justified. I don't care if they were running out. They had no right to break into someones house. I would feel exactly the same if it were my son that broke into someone Else's house. More people should be killed committing crimes like that one no matter what their race is white, black, red, yellow, green, or purple. We as tax payers shouldn't have to house and feed people who commit violent crimes.
