Even though I already have a 60GB PS3, If I were to buy a PS3 now, I would get the 80GB PS3.

The 80GB PS3 cannot play as many PS1 and PS2 games as the 60GB PS3 because Sony took out the Emotion Engine chip to reduce production costs. The 60GB PS3 can play almost every PS1 and PS2 game ever made.

For me, the ability to have backward compatibility is very important because I love playing my PS2 games, and there are still about 3 games that I want to buy for the PS2 because I never got around to buy them.

Basically, the 80GB PS3 is the top of the line PS3 and I would get the model that has all of the features for the PS3. The 40GB and 80GB PS3 both use the same technology and have the same graphics, but I would pay more money for the 80GB PS3.

I work at Circuit City, and from what I've seen, go with the 80 gig. They removed the PS2 hardware from the 40 gig, and we've been getting a few defective 40's back from customers.

if you have a crap load of ps1/2 games go for the 80 gig, the 40 gig doesn't have the chip to let you play ps1/2 games. sucks, huh? oh and x-box is crap.
