Rugby is not in the Olympics Game mainly because of the large volume of what is needed to fall into the fame work and time fame of the Olympic Games.
Something like the Rugby 7’s may, but still yet to be decided.

Rugby was an olympic sport until the IOC decided to remove it after the 1924 games I pressume it was because only 3 teams entered??.
Many countries since then have called for it to be reinstated however the IOC have stated that no other sport will be included unless one sport drops out (yeh highly unlikely!!) despite that 2 sports had been voted for potential inclusion in the 2012 games, this did not include rugby.
Rugby 7s were submitted for the 2012 games but were voted out in favour of squash and karate.
edit: sorry (just read) both sport (squash and karate) *yawn* were also voted out, the IOC remain firm no other sport will replace the ones they have omitted (baseball and softball) grrrrrh!...... but in future they will continue to look at submissions.
I think it would be cool to see a straight knockout comp for rugby at the olympics, youd probably see some phenomenal games given the timeframe.

Murphy (above) is correct, but Debby F hasn't got a clue what she's talking about. Kritters is also way off the mark - I think you'll find there are quite a few professional sports at the Olympics these days. (For example, tennis, athletics, basketball)
They couldn't play rugby at the Olympics these days, as that would mean having to drop some other "enthralling" Olympic sports such as synchronised swimming, the 42km walking marathon, badminton or rhythmic gymnastics.........

wasn't the rugby world cup more popular than the olympics this past wc?Had more viewers etc. I find that the Olympics is becoming limited and without any real fun or drama. So many events, and all I want to see is the few sprint races and the soccer. The rest is boring.

Because then the Olympics would be fun to watch, they couldn't let that happen. Besides, where would the beer fest be afterwards. Also rugby scoring is hard to understand. For example;
Which team won
A the team that got the most points.
B The team that ran nude through the opposing teams locker room after the game with burning newpapers tucked in their butts.
Team B of course.
Check out the site, the team is killer.
The team name is the Missoula Maggots

Mainly the size and huge cost of the teams entering. At least 30 players and millions of dollars needed to enter a team. Its a professional game and should stay out o the Olympics.
7s is played at the Commonwealth games and I think that is as far as 7s should go as well. I'm not too sure if that is a great success think the jury is out on that one.
