It really hurts that they are doing this to me. I never really thought I was better then them, if I ever bragged, it was because I needed approval.....that's all.....if anything, I wanted to be great friends with everyone but the opposite has happened. Now, that they have successes of their own, they are REALLY rubbing it in me especially when I'm down. How can I deal?

Well, i don't know what they are doing to "rub" it in your face, but why don't you just say you're really happy for them, and even try being genuinely happy for them, and move on. Don't focus on it, the less attention you give something, the faster it go's away. If someone know's it's bothering you, then they will probably do it more...

I guess the idea that they too may be seeking approval or even just a kind word for their accomplishments never crossed your mind. I find it interesting that you wanted to befriend them when they were down, and you were on top, but now that good fortune is someone else's they are out to get you. I am hoping you really aren't as shallow or as paranoid as this question makes you sound.

In all honesty in sounds as though you have issues with your own self esteem. Are they really rubbing it in or are they just happy and proud of their own successes? How do you know they think that you think you're better than them? If you're down, surround yourself with people who are supportive of you and don't deal with those who aren't. You are having some really unhelpful thoughts and it will help you to challenge them. Hope it all works out :)

you can only please 50% of the people, 50% of the time. It's because they feel inferior that they need to make you feel bad about your situations or achievments. By sincerly being happy for them and what they are trying to 'rub in' validates to them that you are a good friend who truely cares. When it doesn't come back to you is when you should look at that friendship seriously and see if it's in your best interest to keep them around you.

Smile, congratulate them and wish them continued success! Maybe they are just seeking approval too!
