Why is it that you're not allowed to wear jeans to an interview? Not all jeans look casual; some jeans, when matched up correctly, can look very conservative and sophosticated. Also, isn't it the overall look that matters? As long as you're well put together and you're nice and tidy, shouldn't you be able to get hired?

My professors always told me dress the way you would dress for the job.

Yea walmart interviewers are used to seeing jeans...but if it is an office job I would not do it. It's just the standard to show respect for the interviewer. It tells them that you took the time to be presentable and care enough about the position to make a good impression.

If an interviewer saw you wearing jeans, they immediately have an impression of you. The best thing to wear is something that doesn't draw attention so that it's not their main focus.

I've gotten just about every job I've applied for. I would love to be able to wear jeans to an interview, and I hear what you are saying. But, the fact is, most employers will not hire someone who interviews in jeans, even if the job allows jeans.

I think it is a respect issue. If you don't respect them enough to dress up for the interview, how seriously will you take your job? It really isn't the overall look that matters, it's more a show of respect for the interviewers and the company.

it entirely depends on where you are interviewing. If you wore a pair of jeans to a law firm, you would be seriously out of place. you need to match your clothes to the company. And it is always better to over dress and dress for a position higher than the one you are interviewing for. It shows drive and determination.

I work in a very casual agricultural related industry in Napa, California (the wine biz to be exact), and while I wear jeans all the time now, dressed up dark denim, blazer, etc. I don't think it shows that you are serious. I never wear them to visit clients, unless I know that they will be dressed similarly

the entire point of jeans is to be casual. They reflect weekend wear. they are not considered "dressy" and therefore give the outward view that you aren't professional and that you don't care.

a lot of interviewers are shallow and only look at your appearance unfortunately.

No matter where you interview, it is always best to dress conservatively. Putting your best foot forward, is just the way it is. First impressions are lasting impressions. You can wear a pair of nice jeans but images matter and can you compete with someone who wears a suit?

it depends on the job. for a retail job it might be ok. for something in the business field it is very unprofessional. it doesn't matter how nice and sophisticated you think the jeans look, in a professional interview they are just not appropriate, and there is an extremely high chance you will not be hired because of it. appearance and professionalism are very important in interviews.

Well, it depends on where you're applying? At a company you plan on being at a long time? Where nice slacks, stockings heels and a button up shirt. If it's just at the mall they dont care what you wear.

You should only wear jeans if its a store that sells jeans an if it is a casual environment. Anywhere else is a no no, jeans repersents casual attire, always did and always will!

It depends on the job and business you're interviewing for.

I agree.
If you're pairing a pair of nice fitted dark-wash skinny jeans with a pair of black pumps and a conservative laced button-up top with your hair pulled back... whats the big difference between jeans and other pants?
