The guy seemed like a nutter. Tasers are meant to subdue. And he certainly looked a threat to me.

That is sad. We just had an instance here where a kid who was threatening his mother with a gun came out of the house and was shot dead. Seems he had a hairbrush in his hand. 20 shots fired. Well, maybe only 10 - the media didn't seem to know right then but threw out the 20 # for effect. Lots of questions there too. Why 10 shots or even 5? Kneecap the perp and bring him down. Did the kid want to kie? Suicide by cops? All the facts aren't known yet. You don't mention a lot in your statement either. Seems you left out a lot of vital information. Do you work for the press? That is their tactics. Throw misleading information out there and stand back and enjoy the bruh ha ha it creates. Guess Canada isn't all that perfect either huh? Sorry, sick of the US bashing. By the way, not all cops are viscious nor stupid. I don't really think it appropriate to call them stupid either. Check out the training needed to be a cop? Thought about what they do each day, putting their lives on the line for you? Each case has to be looked at individualy and each country/city/state has to take the appropriate action against that police officer IF any is warranted. Until you know the facts, don't get all put out and don't lie.

How do you know he doesn't have a knife in his pocket? Maybe he should have surrendered to the security guards, and waited for an interpreter. The guy was throwing chairs against the glass. Maybe he should have learned a few phrases of English, where was his mother, why didn't they bring her in. Maybe he didn't have a visa, Poles can't go to Canada with out a visa, how do you know he wasn't on drugs. Tasers are commmon now, especially with anyone that resists arrest. Tasers aren't meant to kill, they are meant to incapacitate. Maybe he was whacked out on speed and the taser put his heart over the edge. Regardless, if he would have surrendered, he wouldn't be dead. He is responsible for his own demise! Same goes for the Brazilian in the UK, running away from the cops, into the underground, with a backpack, two weeks after 52 people were blown up. All I have to say to that guy is "Are you fcuking dumb?" If the guy did have a bomb and killed a bunch more people, the cops would have been at fault for that too right. If you run or resist the police, you get what you get.

Watching this video, IMO I think this situation could have been handled in a much better way. Obviously we will learn more as to why this man became so clearly agitated and very frightened (he was hyperventilating).
The Tazer probably induced a heart attack for this man, who was already on overdrive.
Perhaps he had a mental health problem?
Gee this was not good and so very sad.
Language was clearly a problem, had he made any verbal threats. Quite a lot of questions to be answered before perhaps jumping to any conclusions.

Nick C - a knife in his pocket? You mean he brought it with him on the plane? Man, you haven't seen a German security check these days - they will inspect even screws keeping one's shattered bones together!
BTW, the autopsy has showed that the guy wasn't drunk, on drugs, nor with a heart problem.
I don't get it. There were four Mounties, all of them in body armor, all of them with a full arsenal (nightstick, pepper spray, taser, handgun, handcuffs etc) - and I suppose they _do_ get training in emty-handed techniques?
And all they were able to invent was tasering the guy (depending on source) two to four times? Dunno. I had a high opinion about RCMP. Not any more.
C'mon, here in Poland we don't have a high opinion about our police. But one thing is sure - in such a situation, two officers would be more than enough to subdue a guy like this with their bare hands, or maybe using a nighstick as a tool (i.e. not for bashing the opponent, but more as a lever).
Then again - is it that hard to communicate with someone who doesn't know your language? They needed only some good will and patience - just to share some basic information, talking about philosophy wasn't required.
In my opinion - this was a case of misuse of (as it came out - lethal) force, i.e. lack of professionalism. Those men shouldn't be police officers.
As for the rest - I hope the case will be properly investigated, and those responsible - put to justice. I still have a high thinking about Canadian law & justice system, even if I don't have it for the RCMP any longer.

This is happening in the UK too.
Police in London shot an electrician 7 times in the head while another policeman held him down.
They claimed they thought he was a muslim terrorist but he was totally innocent, he was a Roman Catholic from Brazil just going to work on the train as usual.
The police lied at the time and they lied at the subsequent inquiry. Everybody knows they lied but the police commissioner ( who tried to prevent the inquiry) refuses to resign.

Unfortunate that he died. Sad.
This should be a lesson for others not to act complete prats, especially when you are a guest in another country.
He WAS a thread. That's why everyone stayed well clear of him.

where i'm from (in canada i'll add) the police are scared shitless... and people do stupid and irrational things when they're scared or pressured,.
if we were in the same position... i'm sure a lot of us would react the same way.
scary human nature, aint it?
