Perfection is an ideal, not a reality. Read some Plato. It is one of the ideals we hold to as valuable and work towards, as an artist works toward beauty. But being human implies that we are always on the path. To quote Leonard Woolf (Virginia's husband) - The journey, not the destination, is what matters. That is why there is such a contrast between "The Canterbury Tales" and "Pilgrim's Progress." Bunyan's Pilgrim is a miserable loser, for whom the pathway is just a nasty obstacle to be overcome. Chaucer's pilgrims are an exciting bunch of people, full of variety and color, making the most of each day by telling stories. They live a full life on the road and Chaucer doesn't even bother to tell us whether or not they ever get to Canterbury - for, as Woolf saw, it's the journey that matters. So "perfect life" is an ideal. St. Augustine said you need the church to pursue perfection. Pelagius said - no, the biblical injunction "Be ye perfect" implies that we have within us the ability to take the path to a perfect life. Jerome and Augustine agreed that Pelagianism must be stopped. The Roman Legions were adopting it. So they kicked him out, and declared Pelagianism, faith in the self-perfectibility of man, to be a heresy. It still is. Today's Pelagianism, rooted in faith in humankind, is Humanism, still outside orthodox religion as it was when St. Augustine prevailed over Pelagius. So you can hold as an article of faith that yes, there is such a thing as a perfect life, just as there is perfect beauty, and the good life is one that travels toward it.

What is perfect? In a group's mind, the individual definition is different: an alcoholic's haven is beer, geeks C++ and Java applets, video game addict game consoles... what's perfect for one person isn't perfect for the other.
Our lives are only as perfect as we define it to be. Only you can answer your own question.

No...because sometimes we wish for things like "perfect lives" and when we get the "ideal" that we'd been wishing for, it turns out the fantasy was often better than the reality. Perfect lives stifle dreams and creativity.

well it depends on what you mean by perfect life!
life is designed to be DIFFICULT!!! really!!
i know God or if you're not religious...the universe CHALLENGES US with problems... and circumstances.
its not the problems... its how we deal with them!! we have been equiped with every ability to achieve success in any endeavor!! eagles were designed to SOAR... we were designed to SUCCEED!! whether thats in life, money, family, relationships, as a parent...etc. we were designed for success!
but we have been programed to FAIL. every since we were 5 years old... and it was our birthday and we wanted to reach for our cake..... but when we knocked over our apple juice by accident....WE GOT YELLED AT!! so we went from...joy, happiness... about to get more happiness... to fear, anguish, betrayal.... etc.
after 10, 20 more years of that... we make it to the real world.... so we've been conditioned to NOT REACH FOR WHAT WE WANT anymore....
so how do u fix this?? NEVER STOP DREAMING. NEVER STOP IMAGINING. NEVER STOP LEARNING. be better everday you can. find your calling.
for example, my calling is to help others. i'm a fireman/paramedic, yet i donate over $1000 per month to cancer research, and childrens cancer research, and charity.
thats my calling.
sure i travel for leisure alot. but if i can donate over $1000.00 per month... do i deserve to take a vacation every month also? just asking.
anyways.... the perfect life??.... YOU ARE ALREADY LIVING IT!
CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY REGARDLESS OF YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES, AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE HAPPY.
if you are afffected by your circumstances.... then you will rarely have any happiness!
take care!!

No someone is always wanting or missing something. We were given free will and that is why we are not perfect and our lives wont be either. Never will be.

Yes - but there has only been One. We can emulate His perfect example, but (most likely) won't achieve perfection ourselves in this life. We can only give it our best effort.
