I am doing research for world war 2 documentary centre. We all have a lot of information of bombings in europe and asia during world war 2, but we have no information of bombings on the USA during 1940-1945. Does anybody have any information regarding attacked/bombed cities in the USA during the period 1940-1945. We do not need info about hawai or pearl harbour but about US cities.

Thank you in advance.

The Japanese firebombed the coast of Oregon in a futile attempt at what we would now refer to as terrorism. (all they managed to do was burn down a bunch of trees.) I forget what year it was though. Maybe 1942, since thats immediately after Pearl Harbor.

And to the person above me, In WW2 Hawaii was a US protectorate (territory). Hawaii did not achieve statehood until the 1950s.

They Japanese did bomb the US but not any cities. They used Bid Balloons with Bomb attached to them and a Atmospheric Gauge of some sort to release them. The were Lauched in Japan and used the Jet Stream Air current to cross the Pacific and then the Bombs were released by a triggering Mechanism due to the Atmospheric Pressure Differenc of Land VS Water. Since the had no Aiming capabilities they fell where they fell Mainly in forests or non Populous area of the States of California-Oregon-Washington If I remember the History Channel Program correctly on Weird AXIS Weapons the Farthest they Reached inland Was Colorado and Idaho in forest Areas--Some Drifted North into Canada as well!!!!

while everyone is correct, little whipped mousey gets most of it and my vote.....while there were some Japanese 50 lb fire bombs that made it all the way across the Pacific and started a few fires, and a few instance of Axis submarines shelling the coast with their deck guns, no city or town or village in the ( then ) 48 states was bombed the way London, Berlin, Tokyo et al were bombed......

This one of the reasons the US is so outraged by the 9/11 attacks on New York Washington and Pennsylvania....it was the first time an enemy did major damage to an American city since the British burned parts of Washington in 1814...

The japanese bombed in coastal oregon with (seiran I think)aircraft launced from a submarine, and shelled something (a oil station I think) with the deck gun , started some small fires and such, but no major damage. Also they sent bomb dropping balloons, I think they actually killed a school teacher on a field trip or something that happend to find ones wreckage ..the germans shelled a couple times on the east coast, again with submarine deck cannon..and sank a lot of shipping often within site of east coast cities. but None of them actually attacked any cities...alaska wasnt a state yet, but there was some fighting within its boundries on islands in the aleutian chain I think, and On kiska for sure,TOO.

First, Hawaii and the town of Pearl Harbor ARE American.

Outside of that, no US cities were bombed during WWII.
