A little logic is required to determine which calculation is required.
Example: If a problem said Bob had 3 pizzas and wanted to cut each into 5 pieces. How many pieces would he have? Draw the pizzas and show the pieces, then use some reasoning to determine how the answer is derived. Multiply!

Bob has 20 friends and he has 4 pizzas. How many slices should he cut the pizza into to give each person a slice? In this case when you draw the pizzas, you have no idea how many slices to show. How can you determine this? Divide!

It will take a little logic and experience to determine when to divide or multiply.
