Well, I would be in quite a pickle, because the only way I can lose my housing now is if I get kicked out of college. (Which would imply criminal action on my part, or incredibly serious illness. But if I were neither in prison nor in jail...) So with only a high school diploma to my name, I would have a hard time getting a good job.

First, I'd sell most of my stuff. I don't have much, but I could get enough for some food and maybe a few week's rent at a cheap dive.

Then I'd hitchhike to my hometown, because there are more jobs there, and a homeless shelter if I ever need one... there isn't one where I live now.

I'd look into getting a really cheap place, really anything with heat, a roof, and an address. Then I'd go down to local businesses and put in applications, and take two or three jobs... as many as I could handle. I'd work my butt off and save like crazy. If I had to, I guess I could be a sex worker too, if I needed the cash so bad. I would donate plasma too.

After I got enough money to move into a safer place, I'd keep working my butt off and hopefully earn enough to take some classes at the local community college. It'd take a long time and require a great deal of hard work to keep multiple jobs and get through school, but hopefully I'd graduate. (I'm pretty bright, so maybe I could get scholarships to help.)

Then after I graduated college, I would look for a better job, so maybe I could work fewer hours. I bet I could get a job as a welder at the local manufacturing plant, and they pay pretty good.

Go to a shelter so I won't be sleeping on the street. I assume since I'm homeless I have no belongings so I don't have to worry about anyone at the shelter stealing from me. Then I would hit the bricks and start looking for a job. Being without a home doesn't mean I am without my inherent skills. Once I had found a decent job I would find a place to stay, whether renting a room or an apartment and I would work from there.

Once I lost 40 lbs from starvation, I'd hope that some nice guy would come along and help me. If that didn't work, I would try to find a job and stay at a homeless shelter until I could save up enough money to secure an apartment.

Unfortunately it's a lot harder to help yourself out of this situation than most people realize. It's actually illegal to pan-handle in some cities now. On top of that it's illegal to hire someone without a social security card, which most homeless people don't have in their possession. They can't even have it replaced due to the fact that they don't have an address for it to be mailed to. I would try to do whatever work i could whenever i had the opportunity, and if it got dangerously cold out i would get myself arrested for a couple of days for something small.

I would be a street lawyer, and totally fight for the rights of the homeless, and then the big firms would be against me and eventually sue the street firm I'm with and then we would get thrown on the streets but make a rejoice as I suddenly join the big firm that I was sued by.

I think I would show up on the porch of some Catholic church. They usually have priests or nuns living on the grounds somewhere. I would hang with them and hope that they would help me find a place to stay. I'd be too afraid to wander around and find a park to sleep in. I'm a chicken at heart.

I would head to the nearest shelter available. You won't be turned away. Or you can try going to the Department of Human Services for support. They'll ask you many questions as to your status and will recommend a plan of action for you my friend. Best of luck to you.
