A well fitted suit is apt for formal wear. If the weather is hot or you don't want to wear a suit, a formal full sleeved shirt and trousers is your go to option. A tie or bow tie is an added accessory which is not always necessary.
Check out www.oxemberg.com to see some examples of formals.

Most guys look very nice in formal wear-but NOT if they go all out. A simple black or brown suit, white shirt, and generally a tie normally looks best.

Very attractive. Common mistake: patterned tie with a differently patterned shirt. Do not mix patterns. Patterned tie with a plain shirt of a colour in the tie, and a patterned shirt with a plain tie of a colour in the shirt. Also, tuck in your shirt well or you'll look like a slob. Good luck!

I think every man should own a suit! If you choose to have only one, then i would say it should be a grey suit, it's a classic. It should fit close to your body, and always try to get it one size smaller than you usually wear. People always think that loose clothes are comfortable, but believe, me you won't look good wearing a loose suit. Buy one that fits good, and you'll look confident and stylish.

Dinner Jacket and trousers also tails and trousers with black tie or black bow tie always with white collared shirt. A suit being that the trouser and jacket are of the same material and color and worn with your choice color shirt with acceptable tie ~~

well tailored suit..any suit as long as it fits right.
do a punch of color by your face ( a nice color shirt or tie)
don't do colorful socks (try to match them to your shoes, so when you sit you are still stylish) cufflinks are cool but you need to lessen the tuxedo look to keep it modern, so don't do the whole tuxedo if you wear cuffs (ex. no tie or no vest)..unless you are getting married!!!
keep it young and modern.
