x = total # of students attending school
x/16 = # of students who did NOT join the activities
405 = # of students who joined the activities
to get the total # of students, you need to add the # of students who joined the activities and those who did not join the activities.
Therefore...
x = 405 + x/16
x - x/16 = 405
16x/16 - 1x/16 = 405
15x / 16 = 405
15x = 405 * 16
15x = 6480
x = 6480 / 15
x = 432
x = 432 = total # of students
hope this helps!

Let N be the total number of students.
15/16 of the students participated in Family Fun Night, and this was equal to 405 students. So
15 / 16 N = 405
and
N = (405) ( 16 / 15 ) = 432

I am pretty sure you would just multiply 405x16. That will give you 6480 which would be 16/16, or 1. Divide 6480 by 15, because that's how many students came (15/16), and you get 432. That's the total number of students. Hope this helped.

There are 6,480 students at the school.
405 x 16 = 6,480
If it was "all but 1/2", the answer would be 810 students.
same concept...405 x 2
