They already have their own government and lifestyle just not the official name. If they are independent from China by name, I believe they will be a pretty major world power and people around the world will actually know what country Taiwan is! What do you guys think?

I figure that a majority of Taiwanese would agree with you. I also think a majority of citizens from most countries would agree with you. Problem is, the Chinese government does not agree with you, and hence, the delicate balancing act that must be maintained across the Strait of China.

Might be that the Taiwanese aren't though.

Suppose they limp along as they are now and 30 years from now the mainland government has collapsed or changed beyond all recognition -- then being able to rejoin the mainland would have may advantages.
