i want to get some for steampunk goggles, but am i going to be able to see anything should i want, for some reason, to wear them?
thanks guys...

welding might be the right "direction" your look wants to go,
but welding goggles are made from reason, through design, and achieve their goals VERY WELL

They are DARK to protect you from VERY INTENSELY BRIGHT light.
Light that can blind you instantly.

I mean they are really really dark.

you really can't see anything unless the torch is burning. even then the torch is kinda dark

yeah in the sunlight it would look like the moon was like a 1/4 full and thats ALL the light you get

9 is the lightest shade for welding. You still won't be able to see much though. What I think you want is #5 cutting glasses or goggles. I have sunglass style with #5 lens that I wear for sun and fishing. Great for sunny days on the water. I also use them for cutting with a torch.

it will be like walking around at night with the moon about half full. so... really freaking dark.
