Hi all,

I need earthworms to live in my house for a extended period of time (4-6 weeks). Is there a way to make them live longer (e.g. a ventelated transparent plastic container with soil?) so they won't die off quickly?

Thanks

Keep them cool and damp and they'll last a good while....A large styrofoam cooler with wet newspapers and ice packs (along with some kind of dirt of course). You might want to check them and mix things around after 2 weeks. Adding some used coffee grounds wouldn't hurt either. Coolness is the main key. (50's)?

Any good seed supply company can get you into worm composting. Its a series of plastic trays you add your kitchen scraps to. The worms move from level to level as the food breaks down. The liquids drain off and are collected from a spigot at the bottom. You can do this in a cool basement or garage. Your worms, bait I assume, stay happy and healthy all winter. And you get the finish product at the end....worm castings. This is the best fertilizer ever! Its orderless and can be spread under you house plants or used as side dressing for flower or vegetable beds. If you dont garden yourself, fill 5 gallon buckets with the pure castings. You can sell it . If I lived near you, I'd buy yours if you didn't want it.
