I want to know if java is the future. as you might know Microsoft was planning on switching to java programming for their OS, but it never work out. Now Microsoft is using Languges such as DirectX to make the Vista interface, also using C#,.Net, and Silverlight to make stunning Apps. Although Java is capible of doing simaler things, it is not as stable as C# or .net, and is limited is some areas.

so is Java the Future?

The answer is no. The explanation is very long. I'll try to add more later.

DirectX is an API, not a language. C# was developed for the .NET framework whose goal was to combine technologies released by MS and provide robust reusable solutions to many programming tasks. C# was not created to counter what Java was doing, MS rejects Java as a bad idea.

java is not the future neither c#. it all depends the needs and marketing. I know java is not look good on vista but still it works a lot of cellphones and other embeded technologies.

I can say if you want to develop something on vista and for vista its really clever to use .NET power. if you gonna develop some game for cellphones there is no option then C++ and java. as you see it all depends the project.

about marketing part. if tomorrow iphone publish a .net C# sdk for their phone as we can all guess c# would be very popular then java or C++.

Microsoft isn't switching to Java. Sun ticked off Microsoft and that led to them creating .NET. If you're developing for Microsoft use C# or another .NET language because it will have better performance. If you're developing for Linux use Java.

I think a new company will be the future, not microsoft or java. It will be more high tech and probabl gain support through stock markets.

Any software in its form is able and stable. Its the programmers choice which depends on scenario. Today might be this but tomorrow might be and other like Flash and sliver light.. But up till now I don't think Java has any competitors
