Social Security Numbers are protected under several privacy laws. I would go after whoever posted your number.

Why were you looking for someone else's SSN? That's a violation of federal law, too....unless you had their permission.

Now you know why identity theft is the Number One crime in America. That plus most people are never caught; if they are caught, they seldom do any time. If they do any time, it is usually very minor. Hey, a lot of people would do a short jail stint for a couple million bucks!
Most of this is caused (in my opinion) by the Government. E.g., my medicine from the VA comes with my full name on the packaging and the last 2 parts of my social security number printed right on the address label!
By all means complain, then try to find some one who will care, and see if they can make any changes.

NO,if it's listed in public records;you can have it abreviatted;or replaced with another ID number. It's the main way identity theft takes place.
