Were do you start in getting rid of gangs in the community?

I don't personal have gangs in my community, well none that are worth anything. But for those that do have bad gangs, how would they go about getting rid of gangs or breaking them up? or is it possible? I hear people most fear being killed or labeled as a snitch. Any thoughts about this issue????

I live in Utah. In the city of Ogden the police department has stepped up significantly for getting rid of gangs. They have a department created called Department of gang security. They patrol the streets and keep neighborhoods in Ogden safe.
There is also so called neighbor hood watch groups out there. Or a program called "Tip a cop."
Those are some things you could enable in your community.
Moreoever, make sure there are adequate programs for under priveledged children in your community avaiable. So gang bangers can't recruite them. Good luck!

I think you have to focus with the younger kids. Have to give them something to turn to. Activities, clubs, parties with positive activities and lessons. But that is just the beginning, like others have said you have to change the attitudes of the families. Get the parent's involved. As far as dismantling existing gangs, that's like raising your child after they are grown.
