I live in Michigan and the plant needs sun, something we are deprived of right now. It's my boyfriends dad's plant and he passed away last december so it would be a BIG HELP. * Thanx*

Don't count it out yet. Kinda poke around at the base and see if you can find any shoots coming up. Usually with a banana, the center stalk dies each year as soon as it bears, and a new one comes up to take it's place. Don't overwater it while it is not actively growing or you might rot it. Give it plenty of light and as much sun as you can, and hope for the best.

Banana trees need a lot of light and a lot of water. Try buying a grow light and get a good one that puts out a lot of light. Some bulbs are advertised to do a lot but actually do not. Get it in a sunny window too and keep it warm and mist it at least a couple of times a day. Even if it looks dead, keep watering. I found an old dead log of a banana tree and I brought it home and planted it. It didn't grow but I got a bunch of babies even tho the log I planted didn't have any roots. I just keep watering and now I have lots. Can't wait for the bananas because they are so much better when they ripen on the tree and the little ones we can grow here are really strong banana flavor.
