how do i get respect without seeming mean or demanding. like there is no nice way of saying shut up which is equivalent to saying, "you know what!? i dont like that very much.."

you can not get respect from others if they choose not to give it to you.
but people who do not give proper respect do not get respect either.
what people put out there is what they get back.
forget them, work on improving yourself.
you will feel better, and others will find that they respect you.

Respect is something that you command not demand. Be true to yourself and say what you mean and mean what you say. You can be diplomatic without being mean.

Respect is earned and to earn things it takes time. you want to earn respect , try to be a good listener, try to listen to your friends, you will get more people to talk to. and the more you listen the more they will have respect for you.
