It's hard to say without having a bit more to go on:
1) are you a native or non-native speaker of English?
2) what of English study have you completed and / or are currently in, and how well are you doing?
3) how do you rate yourself in terms of listening, speaking, reading, and writing English? and how does your self-rating match your course grades?
4) what aspects of English learning are your strong points and which are the areas you seek to improve?
Try to do an inventory of your English assignments and the marks on your English papers. Typically, primary concerns are the basics of spelling, grammar, punctuation. At the higher order would be sentence variety and complexity, paragraph organization and variety, logic, consistency, and coherence.
There are some interesting papers that might help you in a free study skill guide you can download at http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/public/clubextraPDF.html?nclubid=893282700&nid=172382363
Some of the articles to consider reading:
1) Understanding Paragraphs for Effective Reading and Writing
2) Active Listening Leads to Effective Learning
3) Numerical Outlining: An Effective Learning Tool
4) Effective Short Cuts to Reading a Chapter
If you need more listening practice, find short recordings of 5 minutes or less that have printed text to go with the recording. Without looking at the printed text, play the tape and try to write down what you hear. If you don't get it all on the first try, rewind the tape and play it again. Use a different color pen for each time you play the tape. Use your previous notes and repeat the process until you think you have it all. Then check yourself by looking at the printed text. Practice this with different tapes and keep track of the number and type of mistakes, and how many times you play the tape to get it all down correctly. Over time, with more practice, you should make fewer mistakes and play the tape fewer times.
Hope this helps. Best wishes.

There are a few steps for being a good student (in any class, not only English):
1.Get to know ur teacher
try to always be on her/his good side
2.Try and do the homework
at least try(but really try) and turn in whatever u have
(something is always better than nothing)
3.(Sorry, but....) Study-
You have to study if u truly want to do good. Study in
which ever way best suites you, be it by recording ur
teacher's voice or by writing down notes.(p.s.- if ur
gonna write notes make sure you look at them
afterwords!)
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS:
4. Never be afraid to ask questions!!!
ask questions whenever u get a chance. Be sure that u
clearly understand his/her expectations.
That's pretty much it.

Make sure you spell correctly, as you've done here. Nothing makes someone look more uneducated than when someone spells "YOUR" when what they mean is "YOU'RE". Lots of people spell so badly, and the sad thing is, it's becoming a trend. Good students of English would never do that.

Reading a lot helps to enhance your vocabulary. Read books you are interested in, magazines, books, and etc. When you come across words you don't really understand look it up in the dictionary.Try to write as much as you can, keep daily journal or write stories to improve your rhetoric.
I've kept a daily journal for a few years now and I have surprisingly improved drastically on my essay writing skills. You might not think that helps, but it really does!
Good luck!
