hey!
I bought new motocycle in may'07 and got in accident same day i got it. mainly my fault i did not know how to ride it and my friend said that its ok dont worry its easy, i got on it and rest is history. I wanna find out is it easy to fix bike yourself. I dunno much about them, but i kow there is no damage to the engine, i broke, rim, rotors, shocks, one side body kit,and the part that holds the odometer and basically the whole handle part to the front of the bike, so i was thinking why pay someone a whole lot of money to fix it if i can buy stuff and just put it together my self. I saw stuff on ebay, iknow a guy at my work who said that he has fixed his bike lots of time . I just want to know how hard is it to take the parts off and fix them since it has nothing to do with the transmission. any feedback would be appreciated. thanks.

most of the parts that broke a probably not fixable, and since you got it in may you should still have it under warrenty, do you? if you do then i don't think it will cost you a thing, just tell them some idiot pulled out in front of you. but if you don't, then you should get a repair manual and buy the parts you need. ask you co-worker what parts he thinks are salvagable, the fairing doesn't necessarily have to be replaced, the bike will run without it.

I think it should be fine, I'm 5'8" and I can reach the ground just fine from the few GSXR's I have owned, I dont think 1 inch would end up making much of a difference.

I just replaced the engine in my gsxr 600. Tell you what. They are easy enough to work on, but it is imperative that you know what you are doing. As some mentioned, your best bet (if you are unsure of what you are doing) is to either get a lot of help from your motor-head friend, or get the parts yourself and have the dealer fix it. Good luck.

Take back to the dealer and have them fix it, your not a mechanic and should not try & fix this bike. It's a fine tuned machine. The mechanic's at the dealship will balance everything and make it good as new. They have access to all the parts which will get you back riding in no time.
The metric tools you will need to buy in order to fix the bike would cost you almost as much as the labor.

Pay the shop fee's and let a pro put it it together right. Take it to the dealer and get a "Replacement Parts Inventory Estimate" and ask them to print it out for you, Now you have the part numbers, part description, dealer price. If you can find the same factory parts or aftermarket parts for cheaper then buy all the parts and take it back to the dealer and let them put it together for you and the only thing you have to pay is the labor.

An inexperienced rider trying to do major repairs such as those you have listed is much more likely to do more damage to a motorcycle that would cost you much more to fix. 'Either take it to an experienced(insured) motorcycle mechanic, or a dealership to get repaired.
If shortcuts are taken by inexperienced repair mechanics, you're putting your life at even more risk

you have the right idea i but all of my parts from eBay then i would have someone that has an idea of what needs to replaced because the dealership will try and overcharge you. this is the best time to learn how to work on your bike

Not a very good idea.
Look what happened last time you didn't know what you were doing!
I'm guessing you didn't have insurance, either. That list is large enough for most to call it totalled.
