I think it is a joke because it tries to prevent discrimination, but rather reinforces it. Because of AA, it forces business's to hire minorities, which is discrimination itself because they are forced to do so by law. Although I truly believe people should be hired by qualifications, what AA is meant to stand for, but it actually does the opposite from what it was originally implied for. And the results are: under qualified individuals get the jobs based on color and/or gender, colleges get accredited (under government influence) to produce the percent of minorities to fill the AA population quota at the sacrifice of credibility, etc...........

I don't believe in it. Why should one person be favored over someone else just because of their race or because they're a woman? I think the most qualified person should get the acceptance into school or the job or whatever. I don't think race or gender should be a factor. I think it dumbs down people because they can get the same result not having to work as hard. How fair is that to someone who has worked hard their entire life? If a minority or a woman (and I am a woman) wants to get into a particular school or get a job, then work hard, get good grades, study, etc. I can't understand how anyone could approve of AA. I mean, for those who benefit from it.....why would you want to know that the only reason who got into a school or got the job was strictly because of your race or gender and not because you were qualified. Also, what does that say about those people? That they're not capable of doing better? I'd be offended by that.

Affirmative action has been practiced in South Africa for more than a decade now. The results has been very discouraging. Standards have dropped in government departments. Service rendering has taken a drastic tumble because of this and many many deserving people are turned down for jobs they would have been perfect for because they are too pale. The entire purpose of AA is to uplift the people that didn't stand in contention for jobs in the past due to discriminatory laws. Now the very solution to rectify this situation is causing poor people to suffer worse poverty than ever, and the infrastructure of the country is almost completely destroyed because of ignorant morons that don't have a clue what they are supposed to be doing... Affirmative action is Bull-sh*t.

I am 63 years old and remember when Affirmative Action became part of our culture. At the time it was an attempt to provide fairness in hiring so that a person of color who had the same qualifications as a white person would have recourse if they were turned down for a "public" position soley because of their race. At the time the process and wording was problematic as no two people are totally equal. Affirmative Action then began to require quotas based on local demographics without giving the "have nots" the opportunity to develop the skills and education required for many of the positions. These quotas spread from public employment to upper level educational institutions (check case law). True Affirmative Action begins with mutual respect regardless of race, color, creed or age. It includes reasonable access to all levels of education at reasonable prices. In California Community Colleges used to be tuition free, they are now very expensive in a manner contrary to the original design which provided EQUAL access to all persons from every walk of life. Real Affirmative Action allows equal access to our political, social and economic areas of life based on the individuals willingness to apply themselves through education, honest hardwork, and ability to respect themselves and others.

The best man for the job wins. Doesn't matter if he's black, white, brown, red, yellow, blue or green. Survival of the fittest, and the weak are made to serve the strong. That's the way of the universe. If you do a better job than the other guy and all other competition, then you get the job. Nuff Said.

I actually think the law is a joke. I hope to go into private business so I do not have to apply that standard. It should be based on merit not on race.

uh, i think a person should be hired or fired based on skill or work performance, blinders should be put on regarding the persons creed or race though, the employer should look at the persons
CREDENTIALS first. always.
