Office politics are like high school dramas. Everyone gets overemotional and has an opinion. However, if you really want to get ahead, it's better to remain neutral and try to be everyone's friend. It's also better to try resolve issues between employees who are arguing. It will make you into the "Go To Guy" and help you get ahead faster.
The last bit of advice I would suggest to succeed in any company is: Take on as much work as you can complete efficiently. It makes you look brilliant and necessary instead of replaceable.
