White noise is a noise transmitted at all frequencies of the auditory wavelength spectrum. It is heard as a hissing sound. I don't know if there is a term 'coloured noise', but analogous to the visible spectrum, it could refer to sound of a narrow frequency range, or emiited at a single frequency.
